The Best Kitchen Sinks
I’ve been looking forward to telling you about the best kitchen sinks on the market. I’ve installed these sinks for many clients, so I’ve experienced buying, installing, using, and cleaning all of these sinks. This is a must-read for you if you are remodeling your kitchen or building a new home!
Why Are Kitchen Sinks Important?
Kitchen sinks have a hard, dirty job. They get banged up with pans, boiling water poured in them, foods that stain poured in them, ice and frozen food left to melt, and I water my plants in my kitchen sink! See what I mean!! It catches all temperatures, gross food scraps, dirt, and coffee grounds. So, if you don’t have a sink that can stand up to all that and be easy to clean and maintain, you have a source of frustration in your kitchen! In this post, I will share the three best kitchen sinks I’ve ever used!
Examples Of The Best Kitchen Sinks
Stainless Steel
For durability and ease of cleaning, stainless steel is a clear winner. Stainless sinks come in any configuration, from one large bowl to a 50/50 divided bowl, and even shapes in between. When buying, look for a 16 gauge or better stainless and noise insulation sink. I prefer stainless sinks with square corners and an offset drain. I like this Kraus sink from Lowes. One thing you have to know is if you have a stainless sink, you must use Bar Keeper’s Friend. It will keep your stainless steel sink gleaming for years to come! Stainless sinks that I would consider using range from $200-$500 and are readily available from your local plumbing supply house and Lowes. You will see some cheaper and maybe some more expensive, but I would not consider using those.
Blanco
Silegranit by Blanco is a line of granite composite kitchen sinks. I’ve used them in new homes and remodels for almost 20 years, and they consistently get rave reviews. They come in different (excellent) colors, shapes, and sizes. The Diamond Super Single is my personal favorite! Seriously heat, stain, and scratch resistant, these sinks, in my experience, can take anything you throw at them. One of the very earliest clients I installed one of these sinks for (back in 2005!) I left a cast iron skillet in the sink overnight, which caused a big rust ring – wiped right out! Bar Keeper’s Friend will do it if you need anything other than warm soapy water to clean up a Silegranit sink. Silegranite sinks range from $300 – $600 and are readily available from your local plumbing supply house and Amazon.
Fireclay
I wish I had an exact count of how many of this exact fireclay sink I’ve installed over the past ten years. The Hillside DXV by American Standard is a clear winner! Tough and beautiful, this sink gives you the option of a smooth apron front or a slightly dressed-up panel front. Either are lovely. The Hillside comes in several sizes and has the option of a single open bowl or a bowl divided in the middle. This sink should run around $1,200 and is mostly available from your local plumbing supply house and a few online retailers.
Note: I genuinely wish I’d used this sink in my own home, I went for a more expensive fire clay apron front sink, and within 3 years, it was chipped, and now, 7 years later, it is beginning to show stains.
